Fun on campus for K-12 students

While our Admissions group tours are limited to high school and transfer students, there's so much to explore on our campus if you're hoping to bring a younger group to UNI. This list serves as a quick guide to some of UNI's vibrant educational offerings that you can contact as you plan your trip to campus.

Arts & History

Kaleidoscope Series at GBPAC

The Kaleidoscope Series, presented by the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, offers educational programming to broaden youth’s understanding and participation in the arts. Performances in the Kaleidoscope Series create a deeper understanding of classroom subjects, serving as a supplementary tool in teaching core curriculum.

UNI Museum at Rod Library

Established in the 1890s, the UNI Museum serves as a research facility focused on ethnographic, historical, and rural school collections. Attendance is free and the museum is open during Rod Library hours. To schedule a tour, submit a request form through their website.

Marshall Center School

The Marshall Center School is a restored 1920s-era schoolhouse, serving as an active reminder of Iowa’s historically prominent role in quality education, the role of UNI in training teachers, and the shaping of 19th-century America through its rural schools. Science & Nature

STEM Experiences

From free public programs to summer day camps, there are many opportunities for K-12 students to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics at the University of Northern Iowa. Find upcoming events and public programs at the link below.

Botanical Center

Guided tours of the Botanical Center offer an opportunity to see, smell, and touch a distinct collection of plant species from around the world, and can be tailored to a particular ecosystem or learning objective for pre K-12 grade students at no cost to the educator. Biological Preserves

The UNI Biological Preserves System is an 88-acre complex of prairie, riparian woodlands and upland forest with 5.8 miles of regularly maintained trails. This natural habitat on campus is open to the public year-round, and is a great space for birdwatching, identifying plants, and photographing wildlife.

Planetarium & Earth Sciences

The Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences offers tours and programming for teachers and student groups ages 6 and up. Visits last from one to two hours and can be targeted for a specific age group and/or interests. To arrange a visit, please contact Dr. Siobahn Morgan at 319-273-2759 or siobahn.morgan@uni.edu.

Tallgrass Prairie Center

The Tallgrass Prairie Center supports prairie reconstruction, restoration, management and advocacy. Please contact the center at 319-273-3836 to arrange a visit.

Athletics & Recreation

UNI-Dome & McLeod Center

Symbols of Panther pride and vital hubs for athletic excellence and community engagement, the UNI-Dome and McLeod Center offer vibrant experiences for fans. College games, high school state championships, concerts, expos, and university commencements have been held in these iconic venues.
