Obtaining your I-20 or DS-2019
The I-20 and DS-2019 are important immigration documents that F-1 and J-1, respectively, need in order to obtain their student visa and enter the U.S.
The process of obtaining an I-20 or DS-2019 can take some time, so it is important not to wait until the last minute to begin gathering the necessary documents and uploading them.
Steps to complete to receive your I-20/DS2019
We recommend completing all steps together and emailing all documentation to us at once at international.admissions@uni.edu.
- Step 1: Complete the Financial Statement and Certification.
For the Financial Statement and Certification form to be considered complete, you must:
- Complete the entire form with the planned budget, identification of the source of funding and signature of the sponsor, if applicable, filled out
- Certify you have guaranteed funds for all expected expenses for your first academic year; here are the most up-to-date costs.
Notes:
- UNI Scholarships or assistantships, that have been awarded, can be subtracted from the total annual expenses
- Students who plan to bring dependents (spouse or children) with them to study in the U.S. must include this in their budget:
- Cost for spouse - $5000 (does not include health insurance)
- Cost per child - $2500 (does not include health insurance)
- Step 2: Provide proof of funding from you or your sponsor.
Along with your completed Financial Statement and Certification document, you'll need to scan and email financial documents to international.admissions@uni.edu. Examples are:
- Bank statements
- Letter from the bank
- Sponsor letter
- Step 3: Send a copy of your passport.
Take a clear photo or scan of the biographic page of your passport and email it to international.admissions@uni.edu. The bio page is the page that shows your picture and personal details. Your passport must be valid for at least six months after your proposed date of entry into the U.S. If it is not valid, the I-20 will not be processed.
All questions regarding this process should be directed to international.admissions@uni.edu.
