Waterloo Access Award
The Waterloo Access Award bridges the gap to cover the full cost of tuition and fees at the University of Northern Iowa. The grant is renewable for up to four years, and adjusts to reflect any future tuition costs. Students are automatically considered for the award upon acceptance to UNI.
Eligibility
- Graduating high school senior from a Waterloo public high school (Waterloo East, West, Expo or United) who will enroll at UNI in the fall following high school graduation. Transfer students are ineligible.
- Financial need as determined by the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)*
- Participate in a TRIO program
Renewal requirements
- Students are required to be enrolled continuously as a full-time student and maintain good academic standing
- Students should file the FAFSA each year*
How the Waterloo Access Grant Works
The Waterloo Access Grant covers any remaining tuition and fee costs after Federal and institutional grants—such as the Pell Grant and Tuition Assistance Grant—have been applied.
Example Student Award:
UNI Tuition & Fees = $10,201
- Federal Pell Grant: $6,395
- UNI Tuition Assistance Grant: $1,000
- Waterloo Access Grant: $2,806^

^This amount will vary based on the amount of Federal Pell Grant and UNI grants.
Students can use other financial aid below to cover housing, meals, and other educational expenses.
