Career Goal(s): Hopes to work for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines for the Public Relations department. Long-term, I plan on settling and working for a public relations firm in a small Midwest town.
What kind of on-campus organizations/activities are you involved in? How does that involvement enrich your overall college experience?
I am an executive board member of the UNI College Republicans, and I regularly attend worship communities on campus such as BASIC and The Navigators. These groups have not only given me opportunities for leadership but also for networking and getting to know other students with the same interests. Getting involved with student organizations are great places to find friends and will look great on your resume.
How has your academic experience been? Tell us about any great classes or professors that inspired or challenged you. Are you happy with your major choice?
My academic experience has been challenging but nothing more than what I can handle. I took an introductory class during my first semester in the business field, and was able to figure out that I wasn’t following the best path for me. I changed my major with help from my academic adviser and one of the staff members in Gilchrist.
A few of my favorite classes were Introduction to Psychology with Linda Walsh- she makes class fun with interactive discussions and media, Cornerstone with Nichole Harken- she’s the bomb.com and has great advice, and Mass Communication/ Society with Christopher Martin- yes, he goes by PowerPoint and the textbook is crucial to have, but he has a passion for teaching that carries out through the classroom and is very smart.
What surprised you the most about UNI?
There are a lot of free services on campus that I feel more students should utilize. By meeting a tutor at the Academic Learning Center, I was able to have one-on-one help and understand the concepts of the math class I was taking a lot better.
